Rincón Pelícanos pre-season

Rincón Pelícanos Enter the Season with Hunger, Identity, and a Clear Vision

As the preseason ramps up in Rincón, the Pelícanos are preparing for what promises to be one of their most focused and ambitious campaigns yet. Team owner and former Pelícanos player Robert Villanueva Ruiz laid out the organization’s mindset, goals, and expectations heading into the 2026 Class A season.

According to Villanueva Ruiz, the Pelicans enter the year “more mature, more structured, and with a clear vision.” The message is simple: this team is hungry, disciplined, and thinking like champions.

The Pelícanos aim to field a team that plays with speed, pressure, and intelligence. Offensively, they want to attack early and often. Defensively, they plan to be solid and reliable. Compared to last season, the roster now has greater depth and more experience in key positions. Villanueva Ruiz emphasized that the team is approaching this year with a more strategic mindset from day one.

Serious Preparation and Impact Additions

Preseason work has been intense and intentional. The team has focused heavily on conditioning, fundamentals, and building chemistry. “Preparation has been serious,” the owner noted.

Six new players will join the roster, including a major reinforcement: professional pitcher Melvin Pizarro, who is expected to elevate the pitching staff and bring veteran leadership. While the roster saw necessary adjustments, the Pelícanos kept their core intact and strengthened specific areas. Their priorities were clear: pitching depth, infield speed, and defensive versatility.

The Pelícanos continue to blend homegrown talent with players from surrounding towns. Villanueva Ruiz highlighted that many local athletes proudly represent Rincón, while outside players have fully bought into the project.

From Player to Leader

Drawing from his experience as a former player, Villanueva Ruiz emphasized the importance of leadership, discipline, and building a winning culture. Preparing a Class A team involves far more than what happens on the field. He described the behind‑the‑scenes effort: logistics, uniforms, permits, practices, and constant coordination. He also pointed to the financial investment and daily discipline required to keep the organization running smoothly.

A Team Rooted in Its Community

The Pelícanos see themselves as an extension of Rincón. “This team represents pride, identity, and local sports development. Our fans are already part of this,” Villanueva Ruiz said. The organization encourages community support through attendance, local sponsorships, donations, and help maintaining the team’s facilities.

The Season Ahead

Fans may have noticed changes to the team’s visual identity on social media, but Villanueva Ruiz reassured supporters that the essence remains unchanged. “The identity is still the same. We evolved the image, but the heart is still yellow and black.”

And what about the postseason? When asked about the team’s hopes, Villanueva Ruiz kept it humble but confident: the Pelícanos won’t make promises, but they will compete in every game as if it were their last. And when a team plays with that mentality, big things tend to happen.
