And That’s a Wrap: Christmas Is Over, So What’s Next?
SanSe is over. Christmas is officially done. And suddenly, Puerto Rico shifts.
Not with fireworks or announcements, but with small, very local changes you only notice if you live here. Parking opens up again. Parents’ WhatsApp groups are more about homework than parties. Mornings are busy in a normal kind of way, but there’s a table available at your favorite coffee spot. You have just enough time to stop for a moment and grab a latte while you catch up on emails. Maybe you even have time to catch a sunset before things get too busy again. On the west coast, routines creep back in and life starts organizing itself.
This is the real reset. Not January 1. This moment.
The In-Between Weeks
Late January is its own thing. Traffic starts to normalize. Businesses have a few days to catch their breath. In Rincón and across Western Puerto Rico, this is when we ease back into routine without losing momentum. It’s the sweet spot before high season really kicks in.
High Season Is Coming (But Not Quite Yet)
February is when things suddenly go bonkers. More visitors. Fuller calendars. More school activities. But right now, we’re in the calm before that wave.
This is when locals show up to trivia nights, small shows, community events, and low key plans that don’t need weeks of coordination. It’s also when businesses start announcing what’s coming next. And there is a lot coming.
On the local side, this is also when free classes and programs through the municipios and other organizations resume. These include fitness, arts, sports, and community activities that bring routine back into daily life.
Add to that:
- Whale season is fully active off the west coast
- Surf season is in full effect
- Outdoor events and markets return to their regular schedules
This is the stretch where life doesn’t revolve around one big festival, tourist rush or holiday.
What to do right now
Take a moment to enjoy that sunset, band, happy hour, yoga class, or game night you’ve been wanting to check out.
You can catch DJ Mouse on Tuesdays at El Faro in Rincón. Enjoy the sunset, music, and a famous mojito from Ola Sunset Café.
Try a morning yoga class at Tamboo. Inner Wellness is there every Friday morning with yoga on the rooftop deck.
Looking for a little weeknight fun? Shipwreck and La Estación both host Bingo nights. You can play trivia at Nacho Libre, or listen to live music nightly at Caddy’s Calypso Café or Casa Isleña.
Shopping, art? Absolutely! Roots hosts an artisan night every Monday and La Marketa hosts thrift pop-ups on Thursdays.
And then there is happy hour. Beer House Sport Bar has a wing night and happy hour on Wednesdays. El Timbiriche has various happy hours throughout the week and Tinto Wine & Charcutería has a daily happy hour from 4-7pm.
If karaoke is your thing, head to La Grifería on Tuesdays.
And don’t forget about Salsa night at Pa Ke Pikes.

What’s Actually Next
First up: the Super Bowl. And yes, this one matters. Not because there is a sudden interest in American football, but Bad Bunny’s halftime appearance might as well be a national holiday. Expect watch parties everywhere, bars packed, projectors and sound systems, and the kind of collective party that only Puerto Rico knows how to throw. The island will stop for that halftime show.
After that, the calendar starts filling in fast.
Valentine’s plans roll out,; dinners, pop ups, low key events, and creative twists that go beyond the usual prix fixe menu.
Solecito Coffee Shop will host a Galentine’s night at their space in Aguada. The night includes decorating your own cake, food, and drinks. Spaces are limited, so reserve your spot early. More details here.
Olio Studio is getting into the spirit as well with a Galentine’s workshop on February 13th. You can expect an evening filled with movement, music, and energy. Reservations required. More info here.
Leave Room for What’s Coming
What’s next isn’t one event. It’s a stretch of weeks where things start stacking up. Where you say “we should go” and actually do. Where last minute plans turn into your favorite nights.
So if things feel quieter right now, enjoy the pause. It doesn’t last long.
We’ll be here sharing what’s coming up around Rincón and Western Puerto Rico so you know what’s next before it fills up.
