WHAT’S UP RINCÓN PUBLISHING POLICY
WHAT WE’RE HERE TO DO
What’s Up Rincón is a local media platform created to connect the community with what’s happening in Rincón and throughout Western Puerto Rico.
Our focus is on sharing information that helps people discover events, local businesses, activities, experiences, classes, entertainment, community resources, and the people and organizations doing things in our community.
We want to make it easier for residents and visitors to answer simple questions: What’s happening? Where can I go? What can I do? What’s new? Who’s offering it?
Our purpose is to connect the community, support local businesses, and make it easier for people to participate in the things happening around them.
WHAT WE PUBLISH
Our content includes information about new business openings and closings, classes, workshops, live music, entertainment, community activities, markets, pop-ups, fundraisers for nonprofit organizations, arts and cultural events, food and drink experiences, outdoor activities, festivals, and other local happenings.
We also share information about businesses, organizations, people, projects, and experiences that we believe may be useful or interesting to our audience.
Our social media is another way we keep the community informed about what’s happening throughout the West, including events, special hours, community activities, nonprofit fundraisers, happy hours, music, workshops, markets, and other timely happenings.
Our events calendar is an important part of this effort. It gives the community one place to find out what’s happening and helps local events reach the people who may want to participate.
HAVE AN IDEA FOR US?
We want to hear from you.
If you know about a new business, an upcoming event, an interesting class, a unique experience, a community project, a fundraiser, or something else you think people in the West should know about, send it our way.
You can email us at contact@whatsuprincon.com.
We can’t guarantee that every submission will become a story or social media post, but we welcome ideas and information from the community. We consider submissions based on their relevance to our audience, the information available, timing, and whether they fit our overall purpose.
WE RECEIVE A LOT OF INFORMATION
What’s Up Rincón receives hundreds of messages, submissions, announcements, questions, and requests every day.
We’re a small local media operation, and we simply cannot respond to every message or publish every request we receive. We do our best to review the information that comes our way and share what fits our purpose and what we have the capacity to cover.
If you send us something and don’t hear back, please don’t take it personally. A lack of response does not necessarily mean that we aren’t interested or that there is a problem with your submission. Sometimes there are simply more requests than we have the time or resources to handle.
For time-sensitive information, especially events and calendar listings, please provide the complete information as early as possible and follow the appropriate submission process when available.
WHY WE DON’T COVER CERTAIN TOPICS
There are some subjects that fall outside the purpose of What’s Up Rincón. In general, we do not publish stories about political campaigns, ongoing political or legal matters, lawsuits or other active legal proceedings, special-interest campaigns, lobbying efforts, or stories whose primary purpose is to promote a particular political, legal, or special-interest position.
We know that many of these issues are important to our community. That’s exactly why they require careful reporting.
We simply don’t have the resources to properly investigate political, legal, or special-interest matters, verify all of the relevant information, and make sure the appropriate perspectives and sides of an issue are represented. We don’t want to publish something that presents only one part of a complicated situation simply because that is the information that was brought to us.
Our platform was created for a different purpose.
We’re here to bring people together around the things we share.
That means our focus is on the things people can discover, experience, visit, support, enjoy, learn about, and participate in throughout Rincón and Western Puerto Rico.
BUSINESS PROMOTIONS
Supporting local businesses is an important part of what we do, but not every business update is an editorial story.
In general, we do not publish daily specials, individual menu specials, routine promotions, or similar day-to-day business updates as regular editorial content. Businesses that want consistent or guaranteed promotional exposure can use our paid advertising and promotional opportunities.
That said, we’re also a local publication run by actual people. Sometimes we may come across something interesting, have some extra time, or simply decide that something is worth sharing with our audience. When that happens, we may occasionally share a special, promotion, or other business information even when it isn’t part of a paid campaign.
An occasional post should not be understood as a commitment to provide regular free promotional coverage.
EDITORIAL JUDGMENT
Not everything submitted to What’s Up Rincón will be published. We may decide that something doesn’t fit our focus, doesn’t contain enough information, is primarily promotional, is too time-sensitive for us to properly cover, or requires a level of research and follow-up that we cannot provide.
We may also edit submitted information for clarity, length, accuracy, and consistency with our editorial style.
Being mentioned or featured by What’s Up Rincón does not necessarily mean that we endorse a business, organization, event, product, service, or individual.
Our goal is simple: to help people discover what’s happening in our community, support local businesses and organizations, and make it easier for people to participate in the life of Rincón and Western Puerto Rico.
If it helps connect the community, helps people discover something local, or gives someone a reason to get out and experience what we have here, it’s probably the kind of thing we want to hear about.
