Helab Creamery & Café: Where Ice Cream Becomes an Experience

On Calle Colón #77 in Aguada, there’s a place where two things happen at the same time: kids don’t want to leave… and neither do adults.

From a real need to a brilliant idea

Helab Creamery & Café was born in 2021, right in the heart of town, founded by Jazmine Cordero and Norberto Villanueva. In 2024, they moved into their current space, taking a concept that started with a very real need and turning it into something bigger. When their son Theo was born in 2019, they realized something simple but important: there weren’t many places where kids could play and have fun while adults could actually relax, knowing they were safe.

That gap became the starting point. They wanted an ice cream shop that would delight kids first… and somehow end up winning over adults too. Spoiler alert: they did. More than they expected.

An ice cream lab (literally)

Today, Helab is an ice cream laboratory where the magic happens right in front of you. Everything is made from scratch using liquid nitrogen. The result: cold smoke, ultra creamy textures, and an experience that feels almost like science fiction.

And yes, the adult cocktails are part of the show too. Watching vapor rise from a glass hits just as hard as watching your first scoop being made.

The story behind the flavor

Behind all that creativity is Jazmine, who went from studying criminal justice and working for years as a secretary and waitress… to becoming the “ice cream scientist” leading the experience.

Her story, alongside her husband Norberto, a contractor by profession, is proof that good ideas, when rooted in real life experience, carry weight.

More than just ice cream

But Helab is not just ice cream.

From the moment you walk in, the smell pulls you in: fresh coffee mixed with ice cream being made on the spot. The menu is wide and designed for everyone: brunch, lunch, tapas, pastas, quesadillas, pizzas, bruschettas, and even white wine mussels.

Everything leans lighter in style, with a focus on oven-based cooking instead of fried food.

A space where you actually want to stay

The space itself is part of the experience: warm, welcoming, and designed to linger. There are games, laughter, and moments that stick with you. Like the kid at a birthday party who said it was “the best day of my life.” Hard to top that.

Birthdays and hands-on experiences

Speaking of birthdays, Helab takes them to another level.

They offer group experiences (minimum 8 participants) where guests become scientists for a day. Each experience includes a lab coat and goggles, two sensory experiments, and the creation of your own ice cream with two flavors and two toppings. It also includes three hours in a private room.

• Weekend (Friday to Sunday): $325

Food and bar consumption are additional.

They also host corporate events, meetings, and friend gatherings, with private room options available.
