SplashFit in Rincón: The Most Fun You’ll Have Exercising This Summer
By Edmaris Carazo
An Hour in the Pool That Somehow Counts as Exercise
I’ll admit it: when I first heard about SplashFit, I thought it sounded like the perfect excuse to spend an hour in a pool and pretend I was exercising.
Honestly, spending a sunny Rincón morning in the water and calling it a workout felt a little like finding a loophole.
We were in. As it turns out, SplashFit had other plans.
Within minutes, we were moving, laughing, and getting far more of a workout than we expected. By the end of the class, we felt energized, refreshed, and already looking for another excuse to jump back in the pool.
More Than Just Water Aerobics
This Monday, we joined Kim Bushell’s 10 a.m. SplashFit class at Villa Cofresí, and the hour flew by.
The class combines elements of bodyweight training, aerobics, resistance work, balance, stretching, and mobility exercises—all while taking advantage of the natural support and resistance that water provides.
The result is a workout that feels surprisingly complete without feeling overwhelming.
One moment you’re marching, twisting, pushing, and pulling through the water. The next you’re laughing with the people around you and wondering where the time went.
Unlike many workouts that leave you staring at the clock, SplashFit keeps you engaged from start to finish. And because the water reduces impact on the joints, it’s accessible to people of different ages, fitness levels, and abilities.
A Community in the Pool
One of our favorite parts of the class was the mix of people. Locals, seasonal residents, retirees, working professionals, fitness enthusiasts, and people simply looking for a fun way to stay active all shared the pool together.
There was no pressure to keep up with anyone else. No competition. Just a group of people moving, smiling, and encouraging one another.
In true Rincón fashion, it felt less like a fitness class and more like a community gathering that happened to include exercise.
Meet Kim Bushell

If Kim looks familiar, you’ve probably seen her teaching Spin or TRX classes at Rincón Ride.
Originally from England, Kim spent years traveling before meeting her Australian husband. The couple eventually settled in Los Angeles, but after the pandemic, friends encouraged them to visit Puerto Rico.
What started as a visit quickly became a new chapter. Five years later, they proudly call Rincón home.
Not long after arriving, a neighbor invited Kim to try a class at Rincón Ride. She loved it immediately. Then came an unexpected opportunity. Rincón Ride founder John McGeehan invited her to become an instructor.
Fitness instruction wasn’t something she had planned on doing, but she embraced the challenge and discovered a passion for helping others move, exercise, and feel their best.
Today, she teaches both at Rincón Ride and through SplashFit, bringing the same enthusiasm, positivity, and welcoming energy to every class.
Energized, Refreshed, and Ready to Come Back
By the end of the hour, we weren’t exhausted. We were revitalized.
That’s probably the best way to describe SplashFit.
You leave feeling like you’ve done something good for your body without beating it up. You get movement, exercise, fresh air, music, and community all wrapped into one experience. And somehow, while you’re having fun in the pool, you forget you’re actually working out.
We’re already trying to figure out which class we’ll be joining next.
