Robert Villanueva Ruiz: Entrepreneurship, Family, and Community in Rincón
At just 30 years old, Robert Villanueva Ruiz represents a new generation of entrepreneurs from western Puerto Rico: hardworking, transparent, and deeply committed to their people.
He was born in Mayagüez, but raised and educated in Rincón, the town that today is the center of his professional and personal life. He has a family of three that will very soon become four, and that family reality has been one of the most important driving forces behind every decision he has made.
The motivation: moving his family forward
Beyond business, Robert’s main motivation has always been clear: to move his family forward.
He wanted the flexibility and availability to be present whenever his family needed him. To make sure they lacked nothing. To ensure his loved ones were well.
That desire for stability, presence, and growth is what led him to make difficult but necessary decisions.
A trade that was always his passion
Before founding his company, Robert left his job and went to work elsewhere, but he never lost sight of what truly fueled his passion: refrigeration and air conditioning.
He had spent many years working in the field, gaining hands-on experience and confirming that this trade was truly his calling. After the pandemic, when many people lost their jobs and everything became more challenging, he decided to take the definitive leap and work for himself.
A Corolla full of tools and a lot of determination
RV Refrigeration Services Corp didn’t begin with large resources or complex structures. It began with a Toyota Corolla. In that car was everything: tools, gas tank, ladders, manifold gauge.
With that, Robert began providing service house by house, business by business. The first years were tough and challenging. COVID complicated everything but sacrifice and discipline also became a learning process.
Along the way, the team was shaped, grew, and became stronger. Today they have three service vans and offer the excellent services that set them apart.

What makes them different in such a competitive market?
In a complicated market, the difference lies in how they work:
- They are from Rincón, and people know them.
- They operate with total transparency.
- They guide the client step by step throughout the entire process.
- They send evidence of the work performed.
- They sell quality equipment, fully guaranteed.
- They stand behind their warranties.
Everything is done clearly so the client feels confident, secure, and well informed. That’s why many clients return and recommend them.
Common mistakes when buying an air conditioner
From his experience, Robert identifies several frequent mistakes:
- Being swayed only by deals. A lower price doesn’t always mean a better option.
- Not making sure to understand what installation, maintenance, or repair includes.
- Not asking about energy efficiency or the equipment warranty.
- Not getting guidance on the BTUs needed based on the space, energy consumption, or whether the property has solar panels.
Asking all the necessary questions allows people to make informed decisions and think long-term about the service.
Myths and realities about energy savings
One of the most common myths is thinking that constantly turning the air conditioner on and off saves energy.
The reality is that when you have:
- A high-efficiency unit
- With the correct BTUs
- Appropriate for the space (home, restaurant, office, or room)
The system can maintain a stable temperature and operate more efficiently. Turning it on and off forces the system to restart the cooling process from zero each time, which can increase energy consumption.
The importance of regular maintenance
Maintenance is key. Robert recommends doing it two to three times a year, although in commercial spaces or kitchens it should be evaluated based on usage and how long the equipment remains on.
Regular maintenance helps to:
- Reduce mold and bacteria
- Prevent illness in family members, employees, or customers
- Improve the durability of the equipment
- Maintain optimal efficiency
The Rincón Pelícanos: sports, faith, and community
Robert was a baseball player for the Rincón team and is now the owner of the Rincón Pelícanos.
Managing the team and his business at the same time has been difficult and costly, with great responsibility toward sponsors, practices twice a week, games on Sundays, massages, meetings, and coaches. But his passion for sports and the flexibility of being a small business owner give him the opportunity to continue moving this project forward.
It not only fulfills him as an athlete but also gives him the satisfaction of seeing families enjoying the ballpark, players eager to learn and participate, and a public that values the quality experience the team offers in Rincón.

Role in the community
For Robert, his role in the community is essential. People are used to seeing him not only as a business owner and service provider, but as someone who contributes, guides, and creates opportunities.
In his view, God opens paths and allows people to see possibilities they don’t always perceive. That vision keeps him motivated and consistent, making his presence in Rincón everyday and meaningful.
RV Refrigeration Services Corp is proof that when you work with passion, discipline, and transparency, results follow; both in business and in the community.
